I recently spent time with my elderly, ailing grandparents. Every morning and evening, carers come to give my grandfather a shower and assist with what needs doing. We all joked that his girlfriends were coming to see him. Given the here understated seriousness of their respective conditions, it was and is a harrowing time for all involved.

The selection of this piece as a Daily Deviation may rub some of you the wrong way, and I'm aware of that. I understand that it isn't the best photograph that's ever been taken, and, indeed, that gave me pause in the decision. However, in the end, I did not select this piece for its technical quality, but for its humanity and endearing subject. I know it will speak to many of you out there as it did me.

It highlights a small group of people in this world that do the work of angels, and they deserve all the thanks, recognition, and support that we can give them. So, to carers, everywhere, I thank you most sincerely.
